About Us

Established in 2006,  the only specialist in the country.

Who are we

Street Kat is the first known specialist company in the United Kingdom to provide the general public with extensive training in two vital areas when learning to drive; the Theory Test and Hazard Perception Test. We are not a driving school; we are strictly a Theory Test training company. We are the largest Theory Test Courses company in the UK.

Why are we offering this service?

There is a general consensus that driving is something that you learn through practical experience and there is not enough emphasis placed on the most imperative aspect of all; PREPARATION. People who are looking forward to learning how to drive often oversee the importance of pre-educating themselves on aspects such as safety and awareness. Considering a pass in both the Theory Test and the Hazard Perception test are compulsory requirements, PREPARATION is key. Our aim is to provide advanced insight to the different areas of the Theory Test and Hazard Perception Test to ensure that pupils feel confident in the areas that each test covers. This in turn will help with practical driving and safety and contribute to securing better drivers on our roads.

Why are we called Street Kat?

Theory Test training companies tend to have a very boring, formal, and out of touch approach. What would the training would be like at these companies? Boring, formal, and out of touch! Street Kat’s aim is to provide fun, relaxed, and in touch training! See us as the Apple or Google of the Theory Test Training Industry!

The name “Street Kat”.  The word “Street” for..? Well.. Street! The street for you to learn on, drive on, street to passing, street to freedom! The word “Kat”.. Meow Meow! Cats have become urbanized, a part of the road, users of the road, defensive to use the road! This is the same process we go through in order to learn to drive. From kitten to big cat, we’ve got your back!

The colours: black, white, red.. all typical road colours. The happy Kat? Well, won’t you be happy once you’ve passed? The race outfit? Well, we couldn’t have him naked! The Kat’s name? Paka, Swahili for cat.

Street Kat and Bike Aware project

Street Kat is a member of a “Promote Cycling Safety” campaign being run by Waltham Forect Council with BikeAware.Org.UK.

Maybe you already ride a bike. Or perhaps you don’t, but would like to. Fear of traffic is the main reason more people don’t cycle in the UK.

80% of adult cyclists drive, but only 10% of Britain’s 43 million drivers ride a bike once a week or more. Few will know how it feels to be compromised by a motor vehicle.

Close calls and collisions are mostly caused by a moment’s distraction or carelessness, aggravated by inexperience. They can have serious and lasting consequences for the rider or walker, at scant risk to the driver.

To be a safe driver we often need to think as a cyclist. Yet most young adults, even though they may own a bike, see themselves not as cyclists, but as drivers.

The driving test curriculum embeds this belief by placing physical control before attitude and awareness. No wonder there’s discord amongst road users where there should be harmony.

The Proposal

Before commencing the practical driving test, all candidates should satisfy the examiner that they can demonstrate minimum standards of cycle awareness.

In addition to specific cycling questions within the theory and hazard perception test, candidates (other than those exempted by disability) should either have completed a recent Bike ability assessment, or show similar evidence of cycle awareness by means of a practical cycling test.

Act today, change tomorrow

This simple scheme would change the cycling landscape forever. Exposure to cycling in traffic would create a generation of drivers better attuned to accommodate cyclists and pedestrians.

Fewer close calls and collisions, especially those involving high risk age groups, would reduce deaths, injuries and NHS costs, whilst greater mutual respect would inspire less confident cyclists, particularly women, to saddle up.

Everyone wins

Driver training costs would continue to be met by the user, enabling the government to leave an explicit cycling legacy to our children at no cost to the taxpayer.

Legitimizing cycling as a natural transport choice would help create a level playing field whose benefits would be shared by all road users.
